The test taker will experience the OPI in four parts:

The OPI interview contains two types of approaches to questions. 这包括水平检查和探测.

- 探针 explore a level above the level checks in order to gather evidence of the level at which the speaker can no longer sustain performance. The tester must elicit evidence of linguistic breakdown in order to determine the proficiency level. The tester will move between level checks and probes in order to arrive at the final rating.

OPI testers and raters are certified via a rigorous certification process and are required to participate in quality assurance activities such as annual calibration events, 虚拟办公时间, 基准测试活动, and other focused rater readiness activities.

These assessment factors are not evaluated in isolation; a test taker’s language ability is holistically assessed based on the overall performance. A proficiency rating is awarded based on how all the factors contribute to the description of a speaker’s global proficiency.
